To crochet this amigurumi Dachshund you need:

  • Fine yarn YarnArt Jeans (160 m / 50 g; 55% cotton, 45% acrylic): in dark brown (70), golden brown (84), pink (36), green (29), yellow (35), black (53) colors
  • 2.0 mm crochet hook by Tulip
  • 8 mm safety eyes
  • Fiberfill
  • Sewing needle and scissors

Your finished amigurumi puppy will be about 15 cm (5.9") tall if you use the suggested yarn and hook. Feel free to try other yarn weights too — just keep in mind the size of your pup may turn out a little bigger or smaller.

Abbreviations:
st = stitch
sc = single crochet
inc = increase (2 sc in one st)
dec = decrease (2 sc together)
sl st = slip stitch
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
(..) = repeat the instructions in brackets the given number of times
[ ] = total number of stitches in a round/row
Crochet in continuous rounds, unless otherwise specified. Mark the beginning of each round with a stitch marker or a yarn scrap.

Arms (make 2):
Begin crocheting with golden brown yarn.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
Rnd 2: (sc in next st, inc) repeat 3 times [9]
Rnd 3: sc in all 9 st [9]
Rnd 4: (sc in next 2 st, inc) repeat 3 times [12]
Alternate between dark brown and golden brown colors.
Rnd 5: (sc in next 2 st with golden brown yarn, sc in next st with dark brown yarn) repeat 4 times [12]
Continue working with dark brown yarn.
Rnd 6–8: sc in all 12 st [12]
Flatten the edges and crochet sc in next 6 st through both layers to close the hole. Fasten off and cut off the yarn.

Tail:
Crochet with dark brown yarn.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
Rnd 2–3: sc in all 6 st [6]
Rnd 4: (sc in next 2 st, inc) repeat 2 times [8]
Rnd 5: sc in all 8 st [8]
Rnd 6: (sc in next 3 st, inc) repeat 2 times [10]

Stuff a little bit.
Flatten the edges and crochet sc in next 6 st through both layers to close the hole. Fasten off and cut off the yarn.

Cheeks (make 2):
Crochet with pink yarn.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
Finish with sl st. Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing.

Muzzle:
Crochet with golden brown yarn.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
Rnd 2: (inc) repeat 6 times [12]
Rnd 3: (sc in next st, inc) repeat 6 times [18]
Rnd 4: (sc in next 2 st, inc) repeat 6 times [24]
Rnd 5: (sc in next 3 st, inc) repeat 6 times [30]
Rnd 6: sc in all 30 st [30]
Alternate between dark brown (indicated with bold font) and golden brown colors. Make sure the dark brown spot is centered symmetrically in the middle. Add or undo a few stitches if needed.

Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing. Stuff with fiberfill.

Nose:
Crochet 7 ch with black yarn. Continue working in turning rows, beginning in 2nd ch from the hook.
Row 1: sc in next 6 st [6]
Row 2: 1 ch, dec, sc in next 2 st, dec [4]
Row 3: 1 ch, sc in next 4 st [4]
Row 4: 1 ch, (dec) x 2 times [2]

Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing.

Legs (make 2):
Crochet with golden brown yarn.

Don’t cut off the yarn, continue crocheting the head.

Head:
Stitch marker goes along the back of the head.

Stuff the legs and the body with fiberfill.

Rnd 5–11: sc in all 66 st [66]
Add more stuffing.

Stuff the body. Set the main thread aside.

  • Sew the muzzle to the head between Rnd 1 and Rnd 15.
  • Sew the nose in place or embroider it with black yarn.
  • Insert the safety eyes between Rnd 15 and Rnd 16.
  • Embroider eyebrows with golden brown yarn between Rnd 19 and Rnd 21.
  • Sew the cheeks to the head between Rnd 6 and Rnd 10.

Continue crocheting the head.
Rnd 23: (sc in next 6 st, dec) repeat 6 times [42]
Rnd 24: (sc in next 5 st, dec) repeat 6 times [36]
Rnd 25: (sc in next 4 st, dec) repeat 6 times [30]
Stuff the head.
Rnd 26: (sc in next 3 st, dec) repeat 6 times [24]
Rnd 27: (dec) repeat 12 times [12]
Rnd 28: (dec) repeat 6 times [6]
Add more stuffing. Fasten off. Weave the yarn tail through the front loops of the remaining 6 stitches using your hook or a sewing needle, then pull to close the hole. Weave in the end.

Ears (make 2):
Each ear consists of two identical pieces – one crocheted with golden brown yarn and the other with dark brown yarn.
Make 7 ch. Continue working in turning rows, beginning in 2nd ch from the hook.
Row 1: sc in next 6 st [6]
Row 2: 1 ch, inc, sc in next 4 st, inc [8]
Row 3: 1 ch, sc in next 8 st [8]
Row 4: 1 ch, inc, sc in next 6 st, inc [10]
Row 5–6: 1 ch, sc in next 10 st [10]
Row 7: 1 ch, inc, sc in next 8 st, inc [12]
Row 8–9: 1 ch, sc in next 12 st [12]
Row 10: 1 ch, inc, sc in next 10 st, inc [14]
Row 11–12: 1 ch, sc in next 14 st [14]

When you finish the dark brown part of the ear, do not fasten off.
Place the golden brown part on top of the dark brown one (wrong side facing wrong side) and crochet sc stitches around the edges through both layers.

Collar:
Crochet 42 ch with green yarn. Continue working from the 3rd chain from the hook.
Row 1: hdc in next 40 st [40]
Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing.

Medallion:
Crochet with yellow yarn.
Rnd 1: 7 hdc in magic ring [7]
Finish with sl st. Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing.

Assembly:
1. Sew the ears to the head between Rnd 22 and Rnd 24, leaving 11 stitches between them.
2. Put the collar on and sew the edges together.
3. Sew the medallion to the collar.
